This is an abandoned mine shaft.  It was probably dug during the early 1900's  It was probably dug as a test shaft to search for gold, since It doesn't go in very far. In the picture we are at the end. They obviously didn't find very much gold in this mine. There are other mines around the area that go in much farther.
