GATE

  • The school has a Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program for students in grades 3-8.
  • Students are identified by their scores on the Stanford Achievement Test-9 (SAT-9), individual assessments and by teacher recommendation.
  • The district has begun a new style of GATE services to our students. One teacher at each grade level will be trained this year to provide special "differentiated instruction" to our students. Gate students will be clustered with those teachers. Within the next years, all teachers will be trained to provide services to our GATE students.

School Psychologist

  • The District Psychologist works in conjunction with other Special Education programs.
  • She completes assessments to determine appropriate placements for children and assists school personnel with special interventions for children.
  • The Psychologist is also a resource to the teachers.

Resource Specialist

  • This Special Education program is for students who require specialized instruction and materials and qualify for these services.
  • The purpose is to assist students to increase performance in the regular education classroom.
  • Students who are having academic or behavioral difficulties may be referred to a Student Consultation Team (SCT) by either their teacher or upon request of the parent.
  • Several interventions may be attempted during this process. If there continues to be a problem the child may be referred for testing, with parents' permission. This process normally takes about nine weeks.
  • If test results indicate a learning disability, the child is referred to the Resource Specialist Program.
