The San Bernardino County Department of Public Health is charged by State law and County Code with protection of the health of the County's citizens. To fulfill this responsibility, the Department carries out a broad and comprehensive public health program which includes classical public health services mandated by the State of California,
a substantial range of personal health services requested by the people and chosen as priority matters by the Board of Supervisors, and a number of County-mandated regulatory services related to health.
The Preventive Medical Services Division is responsible for mandated disease control services, including control of communicable diseases, epidemiology, veterinary services, and the Public Health Laboratory.
It is also responsible for guidance of personal health services delivered within the Department.
The Division Chief is the Chief Public Health Medical Officer.
This division consists of the Communicable Disease Section, the Public Health Laboratory Section, the Preventive Veterinary Services Section, the Child Health Section, the California Children Services Section, the Womens' Health Section, the Nutrition Section, and the Medical Staff Section.
The division is responsible for managing the Epidemiology Program, the Immunization Program, the Sexually Transmitted Disease Control Program, the Tuberculosis Control Program, the AIDS Control Program, the Public Health Laboratory Program, the Preventive Veterinary Services Program, the Child and Adolescent Health Program, the California Children Services Program, the Family Planning Program, the Maternal Health Program, and the Nutrition Program.
